FRANKFURT—Logistics services carrier, Lufthansa Cargo, is stepping up its investment in aviation security, according to a company statement.

The company plans to expand its Munich base into a security hub by the summer of 2007, the statement said. It also plans to further develop the Frankfurt security hub into a showcase station for new security technologies. And, the Lufthansa Cargo station in Johannesburg is being converted and equipped with modern security technology.
New security measures are to be introduced in the cargo complexes at Munich and Frankfurt Airports starting January 2007. Lufthansa Cargo is equipping both centers with a combination of x-ray and explosives detection systems. In Johannesburg, additional alarm systems and a new security service will improve overall security, the company said.
Conversion work in Johannesburg and implementation of new security technologies in Munich and Frankfurt will begin this year and be completed by the summer of 2007.
